The epicentre of Academic excellence, spreading the fragrance of intellect, wisdom, knowledge and discipline, Cheran enlightens the pupils of Karur like a beacon on the mountain. Started with a meagre strength of just 100 students in the year 1982, the school has seen a tremendous improvement over the years with the present strength of about 4200 students. In its steady march, Cheran has reached great heights and scaled new peaks by engraving its name in the mammoth task of nation building.
Our Chairman Mr. P.M. Karuppannan is a simple and self-determined person whose unbounded and illimitable yearning towards education has been the root cause for the establishment of this great institution.
Since he wanted the students of Karur District to taste the nectar of education, he constructed a school in his own village in the year 1961 and handed over to the Government, after its inauguration, by the then C.M. of Tamil Nadu, Mr. Kamarajar.
Due to his overwhelming inclination to serve the cause of education, he laid a strong foundation to Cheran by taking up the responsibility of a non-native’s school which was under an irrecoverable loss. Thus, the seeds for Cheran were sown in 1982 with just 100 students. The school was then functioning in his own place at Ramakrishnapuram, Karur.
The school developed gradually and gained name and fame throughout the district, providing quality education to the student community. Since the land area was insufficient, the school was shifted to Vennaimalai in 1999 and it has been functioning effectively in 9 acres of land with a total strength of 4200 students and 162 teachers.
With the view of catering to the educational needs of student community, especially in villages, Cheran State Board tamil medium school was inaugurated on 04.06.2004 at Punnamchattiram in 12 acres of land.
All these exhilarating and vivacious achievements of Cheran had been brought to light only with the unflinching and unwavering efforts of this simple and self-determined person Mr. P.M. Karupannan whose unbounded and illimitable yearning towards education has earned him the unmatched title “Father of Education in Karur District”.
His selfless service still continues and he will ever be a standing testimomy of the “Bestower of quality education.”
Our Trustee Mr. K.Periyasamy and our Correspondent Mr. K. Pandian firmly believe that education must draw out the inherent potentiality embedded in every child and awaken curiosity, stimulate independence, encourage intellectual vigour and create a good ambiance for excellence. All their plans, are hence, pre defined and are student centred.

“Intellectual growth should commence at birth and cease only at death.” Our Advisor Mr.B.Selvadurai is a man with great insight and immense wisdom. This legendary legend, the glowing luminary of Cheran is still rendering his selfless service even at the age of 95.
“If you take the spark of learning that children have and ignite it, you can take a child to a life time of creativity and accomplishments.” Having embarked on such a divine mission, our Principal Mr.V.Palaniappan.,M.Sc.,M.Phil.,B.Ed., endeavours to provide quality education which drives children into the ocean of intellect and makes them plunge into its depth of creativity. His perfection in work, punctuality in time management and adherence to strict discipline has made him an icon and a role model to all the students of Cheran and has bestowed him with “The Best Teacher – State Award” in 2006 and “The Best Teacher – National Award” in 2015.
All our efforts are directed towards enhancing the originality and creativity among the young learners and develop them into multifaceted and versatile students so that when they step out into the world, they are well equipped to face the awaiting challenges of life.
Education is our mission and excellence is our motto and the credits and laurels of our students in academics, sports and extracurricular activities year on year is a standing testimony to our relentless efforts in our mammoth task.
We are a 33 year old educational institution imparting quality education and inculcating discipline among the young learners. Though we are one of the oldest schools in the district, we are ever new. While we take pride in our tradition, we are never complacent.
We keep searching, renewing and expanding – attempting to be ever relevant to the changing situations of the present. That is why we enjoy a place of distinguished eminence among the educational institutions of the district.
District Ranks are always within our reach and even State Ranks are not far from us. Our scintillating achievements in the board exams are unbeatable. Of the 24 batches sent for X std Public examinations, we have accomplished cent percent result in all the years.We stand proud with 32 Ranks at the District level and 12 Ranks at the State level in the X std Public examinations.
The commendable laurels of our students in the Higher Secondary Public examinations are highly appealing. Of the 16 batches sent for Higher Secondary Public Examinations, our students have brought cent percent result with 35 District Ranks and 7 State Ranks. We are a full fledged Higher Secondary School in the District with a consistent increase in both quality and quantity.
